One thing that was cool about the lesbian story line on Cashmere Mafia

Finding what is wrong in the lesbian story line on Cashmere Mafia is really easy. Is like finding hair in a guy’s chest. You know it is there and you can even spot it from a distance.
During the 7 episodes that aired back in January, a lot of people, including me, complained about Caitlin story line and they way they were portraying a lesbian relationship. It truly sucked, everybody knows that, but I was able find one positive thing about it and I must say it was an awesome progress.
First of all, the whole Caitlin coming out moment was pretty positive. I believe it was the first time I saw a main character falling in love for another woman and coming out in national TV that did not struggled, got depressed, or cried, or hid everything from everyone for months or went thought the denial phase. She totally went for it like there was no tomorrow. In a matter of weeks she met a woman, went out for drinks, flirted with her, was kissed by her in the streets on the first date, told her best friends, kissed again in public, kissed in the dance floor (straight club?). And it all happened in the first 2 or 3 episodes. Com’on, Caitlin was a total free spirit, super cool about everything she was going through. To quote Miss Caitlin when Alicia questioned her about being so stressed out:
“I’m not stressed out because I’m gay or I’m straight. I don’t even care if I’m gay or straight … I need to be in control of my life.”
“I really wanna kiss you right now. Is this zit gonna be a problem?”
The zit? Not the people passing by on the streets? Not that fact that they were working together? Or that she was a woman kissing another woman? Those things are so 80’s and none of the classic fears were represented during the whole time in Cashmere Mafia.
Obviously they messed up big time from that point on. But still, kudos for ABC for revamping the whole coming out story line and bringing it to 2008! It was about time! And too bad lots of scenes of Caitlin and Alicia together never saw the light of the day. Including this one bellow:

Looks like the show is cancelled (read about it here and here) and it all doesn’t matter anymore. If they could only create a spin off with Caitlin … but this time for cable TV.
